About

*Each card or banner will count as 30 minutes of volunteer service- submissions are limited to 2 submissions per individual per semester.*

Send support and thanks by helping us to spread gratitude to our service members, veterans, and military families through our Thank-a-Hero program. The Thank-a-Hero program recently replaced our Holiday Cards for Heroes program allowing us to share our gratitude for these selfless men, women, and children year-round; not just during the holidays. The American Red Cross is accepting cards that will be distributed to service members, veterans, and their families within the American Red Cross Central & South Texas Region. In addition to the Thank You cards, we have expanded this program to include large banners. Your contribution can be fun and easy. Families, schools, corporations, non-profits, individuals, and more have all participated in the past and continue to do so today. Other ideas include hosting card and banner-making events with friends, neighbors, or colleagues. Cards and banners will be delivered to military units, family groups, military and veteran hospitals, and veteran organizations throughout our region.

Virtual Thank You Card Guidelines:
• You will design a printable card or banner that will be printed and delivered at the end of the semester.
• Use generic salutations such as “Dear Service Member”, “Dear Veteran”, or “Dear Military Family” and write your best wishes and a heartfelt thank you for their service. Make it in your own words – it means a lot.
• Do not include email, phone numbers, social media contact information, or home addresses on the cards: the program is not meant to foster pen pal relationships.
• If including a child’s name, do not include the last name
• Do not include personal photos.
• Cards will be uploaded in this folder and printed and delivered at the end of the semester. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ybgkPOKYTbJ80b50lSGt6c0ZFxRPFryl?usp=sharing

Banner Guidelines:
• Banners should be sturdy enough to be shipped overseas and large enough to be viewed when hung on a wall.
• Your banner should include your main message to either Veterans or Service Members, and then be filled up with individual messages of best wishes from your members or employees – the more the better!
• Banners will be rolled up for shipment.

Delivery Instructions:
• Completed cards and banners will be uploaded into this folder and printed and sent by AIS Faculty at the end of the semester. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ybgkPOKYTbJ80b50lSGt6c0ZFxRPFryl?usp=sharing
