About
Join us for a virtual platica with the former Director of the Texas chapter of the United Farm Workers, Rebecca Flores.
Ms. Flores will speak on this year's theme for the Cesar E. Chavez March for Justice: La Causa Sigue. Topics will include why the movement is still relevant and what the movement means for today’s generation.
After being trained in "house meeting organizing" by the famous leaders Cesar Chavez and Fred Ross, Rebecca and farm workers organized farm workers and established dozens of committees in the colonias of the Rio Grande valley. Under her leadership, Flores and the UFW of Texas advocated for many issues relating to work in the fields, and the health, well-being, and civil rights of farm workers in Texas.
Ms. Flores was named a San Antonio Peace Laureate, an award that recognizes those who serve as a voice of wisdom and experience to speak for peace, justice, and compassion. In 2022, she was inducted into the Texas AFL CIO Hall of Fame recognizing her years of commitment to farm workers and the community.
