Assisted in the intake process of registering families of children with disabilities into the clinic. The clinic was a pro-bono consulting service for parents and young adults interested in the SDMA (Supported Decision-Making Agreement) program. The program stems from the new law passed in 2015, which opens up an alternative to guardianship for a person with a disability and his/her parent.
This opportunity was by far my favorite and the most experiential-learning.

I volunteered as the first rounds poetry slam judge. It was so much fun. I would do it again.
I had the opportunity to help run the food pantry. It was an amazing experience to talk with the shoppers and see so much appreciation in their eyes. I was even lucky enough to hold a baby while on shopper shopped. This is something I would definitely do again.
I had the opportunity to reff the youth rugby teams here in Austin. It was satisfying to see young boys and girls be willing to play such an enduring sport even though it was touch.
I had the opportunity to serve breakfast to the homeless of Austin. You meet so many individuals with more respect than your peers. It was amazing to start my day off serving others.
I worked behind the scenes at Longhorn Hallwoeen. I passed out candy and saw the amount of volunteered effort, money, and attention to detail these personnel had towards this event. My eyes opened as though the realization of how many generous people there were that they would help put on such an event for the kids of the community. Their generosity poured out and the children were so blessed. I got to see smiles as kids attended an event that would be remembered as a childhood tradition.
