We are very much in need of volunteers to drive our seniors to routine doctors appointments; grocery shop; or work a few hours a week in our office. Let me tell you a little about how it works to be a volunteer for NESA.
We put you on our list for the days and time availability that you specify, then we contact you during those times when a driver is needed to take a senior to an appointment. If you can, we'll assign you; if you can't, we'll call the next volunteer. It's that simple. The appointments are routine and don't require lengthy visits; you don't spend hours waiting for the client. Rides are only scheduled between 9am and 3pm week days. We do pay 55 cents for every mile you drive from the moment you leave your home until you return home.
I am forwarding to you the application for NESA, which you may complete at home or in the office. It only takes about half an hour to get you set-up as a volunteer; you are in-and-out in no time. We complete a brief background check and verify your license and insurance information.
After that, you are ready to go. You may drop by the office between 9-2:30 Mon - Fri. to get started; just let me know. The address is 2903 Nacogdoches Road, 78217. We're just north of Loop 410. Again, it's simple and you don't have to commit to a set weekly schedule, just whenever your availability matches a ride will do. If you would like to be a shopper or a handy helper the same timing applies; it's based on your availability.... [more]
