I volunteered with the Hispanic Nursing Student Association at Longhorn Halloween in the Frank Erwin Center. We passed candy out to children and offered face painting. I also helped set up and break down the booth. It provides a safe place for children to trick or treat and they get to dress up in costumes. It's also a fun way for parents to spend time with their children. I loved seeing all the smiles and how excited children were to get their face painted. It is one of my favorite events to volunteer at.
I volunteered with my organization HNSA (Hispanic Nursing Student Association). We organized a health assessment workshop. It was a free health screening not only for our peers but for the community as well. This was a great volunteer opportunity because as a nursing student I was able to practice the skills I learned in class as well as educate the participants. It was a way to help people understand the importance of annual health screenings.
I volunteered with Starbright Preschool at the fall yard and building clean up. It brought together children and their families as well as the local community. My group helped put together new playground equipment for the students. I enjoyed this very much because of the joy the children got from the new playground. It felt really great to give back to the community and children who are less fortunate.
I volunteered at Warrior Dash, this is an obstacle course run and all profits go to St.Jude Children's Research Hospital. I signed people in and directed them where to go. This was my second year volunteering and despite the rainy weather it was still worth it. It's a fun way to raise money for a great cause.
I volunteered at Longhorn Halloween. It's a safe way for kids to dress up and celebrate Halloween and gives parents an opportunity to spend time with their kids. I'm glad I was able to make all the children happy; just seeing them smile and laugh made my heart melt. I really enjoyed the experience and is something I will definitely do next year.
