After School Program

It was good! I helped the kids with without homework which was kind hard? I forgot decimals completely so I had to ask one of the program leaders to double check. I also had to google how to spell balloon just to double check I was right. Teaching how to spell certain words was hard, but she got it! The girl I helped mostly was a sweet kid, who needed some help with her homework.

I forgot to record my impact for today, whoops! Today was pretty chill at first, but got super busy later. I started off just helping with clothes by deciding which ones would go in the clothes closet. Pretty simple, nothing too hard, then I moved on to putting them in the clothes closet. A mother and her kids were there choosing clothes, and she asked me if I spoke Spanish, which i kinda understand? She asked me about clothes for her kids, and where the sizes were l, and I wasn't sure. Then after putting clothes away, I met some St Mary's students, and talked with them for a bit. After that, we all helped move in a huge food donation, and organized and out away food. When that was done, some of them left, and one guy went to work in the after school care. I helped out with a food donation that came in, and then stayed and extra hour to help with the kids!

Today was a bit more all over the place, but nore organized in a way! I was laminating papers at first, which wasn't too hard. I then ended up working in the clothes closet, which was nice! It was quiet since after the other 2 people left, it was just me in there. It was a nice time to think as I folded clothes. I also checked to see if the clothes were summer or winter clothes, and put the summer clothes in another pile. Then I went and put them in a huge red bin that had other stuff they were recycling.

I think it addee my hours twice? Well, either way,
I went in today and I was directed towards the computers which was a surprise to me! But they needed help with their paperwork, so I had it explained to me, and that's what I did today. It was kinda stressful, because I wasn't sure if I was doing it right, but the guy helping me was super nice! And while I was waiting on him at some point, I started talking to an old man that was waiting nearby, and he told me about how he had been flooded out of his home, and that's why he was here. We talked about hospitals we were born at, how old buildings are being torn down, how people and things are different now then they were, and about pollution and the environment. It was busy for a conversation that lasted about 5 minutes, but it was a fun one to have.

Super Star Donation Sorters Needed!

Working here was a great opportunity and I might continue to work here further. The people who ran Guadalupe were very friendly and helpful. Amaris was really nice about the volunteer hours and was sweet! The work itself wasn't too much, though eating beforehand would have been a good idea. It was a bit disorganized and chaotic, and a lot of people ended up wandering around after a time, but we surpassed the goal of 150 boxes by 3!
