After School Program

Today was a really good day at the GCC. I helped my friend Ariana with her homework for almost the whole 2 1/2 hours, which was very rewarding. I love to see how excited the kids get when they finally finish their homework, especially with only a little help. I love to encourage them and remind them about how awesome and hard-working they are. I can't wait to continue to go back to this outreach program even after though I am finished with my service hours.

After School Program

I'm definitely starting to feel a lot more comfortable all the way around. I'm getting to know more and more about my new friends here. And, I have decided to come back every Wednesday even after I satisfy my hours for my God class. It's honestly just been such a rejuvenating experience, and I love helping and doing what I can to make it easier for Mr. Manny because I know it can be a handful with the number of kids that go. And sometimes it can get really frustrating when they don't listen or claim that what I'm doing is wrong and what they are doing is the "right way." But, it has taught me the importance of patience and I can't wait to get to know everyone more, and hopefully get everyone's names down soon.

After School Program

The second time around it was a lot of the same stuff, just helping the kiddos with their homework. I really enjoy getting to know all of the students that go to the after-school program. This is when I started to begin actual relationships with the kids. One of my favorite little girls that go is Ivyanna, she is just such a ball of energy and always makes me laugh. She is in the first grade and loves to color and play teacher with me. It is just an amazing feeling to have these kids that look up to you and think you are so cool because you are in college at St Mary's. I'm trying to remember everyone's names so that no one feels left out.

After School Program

My first time at the Guadalupe Community Center was definitely not what I thought it would be. I remember walking in and going to the back to where I could hear the sound of kids, full of energy. I was a bit nervous because it was my first time and I didn't really know what to expect, but I soon realized it was nothing to be anxious about. Mr. Manny is so welcoming and the environment during the after school program is nice and relaxed.
I went with my friend Alice, and we both helped some girls with their homework so that they could go and watch the Halloween movie playing in the other room. It felt good to help and tutor the kids that go to this program, and it was fun to get to talk with them.
