Texas Advocacy Project--Black and White Ball
Duties: match up auction winners
Thoughts: duties were minimal but such a great cause...raising money and awareness against domestic violence. Awesome venue and set-up. It was super nice and everyone looked beautiful. They fed us too...best part.
The Houston Public Library was holding a summer camp for students grade K-8 called Camp STREAM. It was a week long program that exposed children to different subjects: science, technology, reading, english, art, and math. It was fascinating to see how different students enjoyed different subjects and how much or how little they knew of each subject. I chaperoned the 5-8th graders who actually surprised me with their wealth of knowledge especially in science since that seems to be the most difficult subject for many.
The program did not cost to enroll and it provided snack times and lunch times for every student. In my opinion, the program was not very well organized due to the lack of communication between the two groups and the times each activity ran on, but for a program that offered so much in a week at no cost, things ran pretty smoothly and the attendance rate of students seem to stay consistent throughout the week.
