During ACL, my friends and I volunteered to walk around the festival and pick up trash. It was super easy and fun because I was already going to be there anyway to listen to the music, so keeping Austin and Zilker Park beautiful all the while was super rewarding. I will definitely be doing this again next year at ACL!

I volunteered at a local Goodwill, sorting through donations and organizing the store. I volunteered with two of my friends and overall the experience was a good one!
During SXSW I volunteered at an event by picking up and disposing of trash. I got to get into the event for free because I volunteered to help them with the site maintenance. The event was awesome and I met a ton of really cool people who were also volunteering. Overall the experience was great!
I volunteered at Inside Books Project. In East Austin, there is a makeshift library, filled with books donated from the Austin community. Inmates in different prisons and jails across Texas write in letter to Inside Books, requesting certain types of books they are interested in and would like to read. As a volunteer, I would read a letter and then browse the Inside Books library for books that fit the requests of the inmate, put them in an envelope, and write a letter back to the inmate, listing the books I've included as this becomes their receipt. After three months, the inmates can write back asking for more books. They get to keep all the books they receive. I found this experience so rewarding. I went back numerous times after the first time I went and even donated a handful of books to the library. I would encourage everybody to check out the Inside Books Project and to donate to the library because they do run on donations alone. The inmates request books to read for pleasure but also informative books and dictionaries and textbooks so that they can further their education while in prison. I am a huge supporter of Inside Books and will continue to volunteer there for as long as I can.
I volunteered at Inside Books Project. This organization is volunteer run and all the books are donated. People in prison write letters to Inside Books requesting specific books, book genres, etc. that they would like to read. The volunteers read these letters and try and find them books in the Inside Books library that meet their requests. We then write a letter back to them stating what books are included in the package, this becomes their receipt for the books. We also include the write back date; they can write back every 3 months requesting more books. The books are free and we can send them as many as possible within a given weight range. This was a very rewarding experience, so much so that I chose to complete my full 10 hours at Inside Books!

I participated in the ULN Holiday Heroes event. I enjoyed writing the letters so much I actually wrote like 5! It was really fun also to get to hang out with/meet new ULN students and enjoy the festive music and awesome cookies! I loved this event!
I participated in packing boxes of good for soldiers in Afghanistan through an organization called Caring For Camo here on campus. We packed boxes with socks, blankets, games, and wrote letters to soldiers stationed overseas. They will receive the packages just before Christmas! This is a very rewarding service project.
