Volunteered with SURE Walk to give safe rides home to students around campus. It was a really fun experience being able to meet new people as we gave them confidence that they'd arrive home safely.
Helped pick up trash Eastwoods park north of campus for an hour.
Volunteered with my co-mentor in cleaning up around West Campus saturday morning. Though picking trash can become really monotonous, I enjoyed being able to clean up while with someone else. Another positive impact this experience had on me was a few people giving compliments and thanks for cleaning. However, the real motivation for our clean up was just being able to help keep the community and our environment clean.
It was a great experience being able to volunteer with my fellow mentors and mentees as we welcome children as they arrived on buses. Just being able to see all the smiling kids and wonder in their eyes as they stepped foot on the university was a great experience. This is the second year I've participated in explore UT and I can't wait for the next year as well.
Volunteering at the park with my mentees and co-mentors was an enjoyable experience, even if few mentees showed up. We were able to clean up around Eastwoods park and make sure all little would not harm the local environment. While there, a few of the local residents actually stopped and thanked us for helping keep the park clean. It was a great experience and we were able to enjoy the nice weather afterwards as well.
Volunteering at Explore UT was an experience I enjoyed a great deal. Working with other coordinators to ensure volunteers were signed in and updated on their tasks, while managing the information booth was definitely a positive experience. I was able to meet and befriend many amazing volunteers and enjoyed helping guide visitors to where they needed to be. Being able to see so many young faces interested in visiting UT only helped to strengthen my desire to participate in Explore UT next year. Not only was it enjoyable, but I also feel like I learned a great deal leadership wise and communication wise.
Taking part in our small group service project, I learned many things. I really appreciated being able to donate my time to help gather warm winter clothing to give to the less fortunate. Being able to see the generosity of students and other members of our community really helped inspire me to participate more actively to ensure that a larger part of our community gets involved in itself.
