About
Bird Watching for Science: Continue Feeder Monitoring at Mitchell Lake!
Keep the spirit of Project FeederWatch going through the off-season with Mitchell Lake FeederWatch, our local summer feeder monitoring program modeled after the national project!
As a Mitchell Lake FeederWatch volunteer, you’ll help us continue tracking the birds visiting our feeders outside of the official Project FeederWatch season. Spend an hour or more on the covered porch at Leeper House, watching the feeders and recording the birds you see using simple tally sheets.
No prior experience is needed! We provide bird identification guides, data sheets, and everything else you’ll need to participate. If this is your first time joining us, we recommend signing up Tuesday-Saturday rather than Sunday so a staff member can walk you through the process and help you get started. Once you know the routine, you’re welcome to participate on Sundays as well!
This is a relaxing way for both newer and experienced birders to spend some time with the birds while contributing to our local records. You can participate anytime from 7am - 11am, Tuesday-Sunday, and whether you come regularly or just once, every observation helps.
What we provide:
-
Comfortable, covered seating
-
Visual guides to common feeder birds
-
Tally sheets and writing materials
-
Staff support with bird identification
Join us for a peaceful morning of bird watching while helping us keep track of who is visiting the feeders at Mitchell Lake!
Please allow up to 48 hours for registration approval. Registrations are reviewed during staff hours, Tuesday-Saturday, 8am - 3pm.
Trying to sign up between November 1 and April 30? Join us for the official Project FeederWatch instead!
